Since Quinnipiac’s semester ended yesterday, I’m now off the air for semester break.
For reasons out of my control, I will not be on the air tomorrow.
Also, if my calculations are correct, next week will be the last show of the semester. If that’s true, expect some kind of 2007 retrospective.
See you then!
Left of the Dial is back on the air this weekend to start the last few shows of the semester. While I’m announcing this to you, I figured I’d point out a couple different things I noticed this weekend.
First, while watching the Giants – Vikings game, FOX played the very beginning of my show’s theme song going to commercial. I was so surprised to hear the Replacements during a football game – something doesn’t add up there.
And also, I saw the youtube video a month ago when the Arcade Fire finished their show at Randall’s Island with an impromptu cover of the Violent Femmes’ “Kiss Off” – a song that I used to frequently end my show with in days past, especially when completing an extra-long broadcast or a shift I covered for another DJ. It also is the last song that I ever played at WDOM (unofficially, since I played it while packing up after the still legendary 5 1/2 hour final Left of the Dial in May 2005).
Anyway, I let it slide until this weekend I found out that the Arcade Fire have continued to cover it during some of their European tour dates. I only hope they picked it up from listening to my humble little show!
So to tide you over until Saturday morning, here’s a couple Youtube videos of AF covering the Violent Femmes. Feel free to find MP3s by searching on The Hype Machine.
First, “Kiss Off” from the Randall’s Island show 10/6/07
And “Kiss Off” live in Brussels 11/02/07
Just a heads up that both Left of the Dial and WQAQ will be off the air both this weekend and next weekend for the Thanksgiving holiday (so sleep in this weekend).
Also, I just learned second hand that I’m WQAQ’s “DJ of the Week.” I’m not really sure what that entails but nonetheless I’m extremely honored and grateful to be selected! Head over to WQAQ.com to check out my honor and a list of past honorees.
Enjoy the time off and do something fun in the interim – I’m going to see The Hold Steady & Art Brut (again!) next week. Let me know what you want to hear when I come back December 1st.
Left of the Dial returns on Saturday, September 22!
WQAQ returns on the air and Left of the Dial returns to Saturday Mornings 11 AM to Noon.
Tune in to 98.1 FM in the Hamden/New Haven area or stream WQAQ online at WQAQ.com.
I’m looking forward to playing some old favorites and some new music for you this semester. As always, click on the “How to Listen” tab for contact info.

So this is a bit belated, but I’ll pass the info on anyway. WQAQ is currently on spring break right now and will be off the air this coming weekend.
The next show will be on Sunday, March 25th so tune in then!
(Until then, browse my other blog – Goodnight to the Rock & Roll Era)
With WQAQ up and running again, Left of the Dial returns this week with a new time slot:
SUNDAYS 9:00 – 10:00 AM
Yes, it’s early but it’s so worth it. Especially to hear all the new stuff I have this week (Arcade Fire, Ted Leo, Bloc Party, etc).
So tune in and check it out!
Tune in this Saturday for a retrospective on music that came out on ten years ago. It should be fun!
Left of the Dial is proud to present the first annual “Lefty” Awards celebrating some of the best music this past year.
Tune in this Saturday at 11:00 AM for this very special event (so special that Mike G will be joining the party!)
Lefty himself approves:

Since Quinnipiac will be closed for Thanksgiving break this coming week, I won’t be on the air this Saturday (11/18) or the following one (11/25). Check back in a few days and hopefully I’ll have something special (podcast, radioblog, etc) to tide you over until then.
Also, mark your calendars for 12/2 for the First (Annual?) “Lefty” Awards honoring some of my favorite music from 2006. There’s also a very good chance that Mike will join the ceremony as well!
