Left of the Dial is back on the air this weekend to start the last few shows of the semester. While I’m announcing this to you, I figured I’d point out a couple different things I noticed this weekend.

First, while watching the Giants – Vikings game, FOX played the very beginning of my show’s theme song going to commercial. I was so surprised to hear the Replacements during a football game – something doesn’t add up there.

And also, I saw the youtube video a month ago when the Arcade Fire finished their show at Randall’s Island with an impromptu cover of the Violent Femmes’ “Kiss Off” – a song that I used to frequently end my show with in days past, especially when completing an extra-long broadcast or a shift I covered for another DJ. It also is the last song that I ever played at WDOM (unofficially, since I played it while packing up after the still legendary 5 1/2 hour final Left of the Dial in May 2005).

Anyway, I let it slide until this weekend I found out that the Arcade Fire have continued to cover it during some of their European tour dates. I only hope they picked it up from listening to my humble little show!

So to tide you over until Saturday morning, here’s a couple Youtube videos of AF covering the Violent Femmes. Feel free to find MP3s by searching on The Hype Machine.

First, “Kiss Off” from the Randall’s Island show 10/6/07

And “Kiss Off” live in Brussels 11/02/07

Just a heads up that both Left of the Dial and WQAQ will be off the air both this weekend and next weekend for the Thanksgiving holiday (so sleep in this weekend).

Also, I just learned second hand that I’m WQAQ’s “DJ of the Week.”  I’m not really sure what that entails but nonetheless I’m extremely honored and grateful to be selected!  Head over to WQAQ.com to check out my honor and a list of past honorees.

Enjoy the time off and do something fun in the interim – I’m going to see The Hold Steady & Art Brut (again!) next week.  Let me know what you want to hear when I come back December 1st.

I can safely say that today’s show was one of my favorite’s in a long, long time – I think that the songs flowed well, I had some good conversations on AIM with listeners, and the transitions were tremendous.

I know I went a bit overboard on the I’m Not There Soundtrack but I’m quite impressed by it. I encourage you to check it out and check out the movie when it comes out and form your own opinion on it.
