Monthly Archives: November 2006

Since Quinnipiac will be closed for Thanksgiving break this coming week, I won’t be on the air this Saturday (11/18) or the following one (11/25). Check back in a few days and hopefully I’ll have something special (podcast, radioblog, etc) to tide you over until then.

Also, mark your calendars for 12/2 for the First (Annual?) “Lefty” Awards honoring some of my favorite music from 2006. There’s also a very good chance that Mike will join the ceremony as well!

This week’s show featured more new music than normal – I guess I was in the mood for it!

What you heard:

The Replacements – “I Will Dare” (from Let it Be)
Bright Eyes – “First Day of My Life” (from I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning)
Kevin Devine – “Just Stay” (from Put Your Ghost to Rest)
The Clash – “Police on My Back” (from Sandanista!)
…And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead – “Gold Heart Mountain Top Queen Directory” (from So Divided)
R.E.M. – “Little America” (from Reckoning)
Pablo – “This Will Be Our Year” (from Half the Time)
Minus 5 w/ Wilco – “Where Will You Go?” (from Down With Wilco)
Spoon – “The Book I Write” (from Stranger Than Fiction: OST)
Sufjan Stevens – “Jacksonville” (from Illinois, or Come on, Feel the Illinoise!)
The Hold Steady – “Your Little Hoodrat Friend” (from Separation Sunday)
TV on the Radio – “Wolf Like Me” (from Return to Cookie Mountain)
Feist – “Mushaboom” (from Let it Die)
Pearl Jam – “Insignificance” (from Binaural)

I described this past week’s show as “odd” not because it didn’t go well (it went quite well) but because my song selection was a bit strange. They’re all good songs but I picked some strange ones looking back.

Regardless, here’s what you heard:

The Replacements – “Left of the Dial” (from Tim)
The Decemberists – “The Engine Driver” (from Picaresque)
Robyn Hitchcock & the Egyptians – “Madonna of the Wasps” (from Madonna of the Wasps)
The Afghan Whigs – “Creep” (from Honky’s Ladder EP)
The Wedding Present – “Our Lips are Sealed” (from BBC Radio1’s One Music 08-29-06)
Desmond Dekker – “King of Ska” (from The Definitive Collection)
The Specials – “Monkey Man” (from The Specials)
The Dismemberment Plan – “The City” (from Emergency & I)
Jamiroquai – “Canned Heat” (from Synkronized)
New Order – “Temptation” (from Substance)
Echo & The Bunnymen – “Bring on the Dancing Horses” (from Songs to Learn and Sing)
Dexy’s Midnight Runners – “Let’s Make this Precious (BBC Version)” (from Let’s Make This Precious)
Modest Mouse – “Gravity Rides Everything” (from The Moon and Antarctica)

See you next week!
